Everything you need to know about bad credit mortgages in the UK explained in plain English by specialist broker Darryl Dhoffer with 20 years experience.
In over 20 years doing this job, the thing that's cost people the most isn't their CCJ, their default, or their old IVA. It's the assumption that those things mean the door's already closed. I've lost count of the number of people who never even asked, because they'd already decided the answer would be no.
That's the actual problem I set out to fix — not the credit issue itself, but the silence before it.
20+ years in mortgages. Award-winning specialist. Featured in the Daily Express, FT Adviser, The Intermediary and Daily Mirror. I have helped hundreds of people across the UK who were told no by their bank — and I work with 65+ lenders including specialist adverse credit lenders you will not find on comparison sites.
When you contact me, you speak to me directly. No call centres. No being passed around. I personally review every case and respond within 2 hours.
Someone gets declined once — by a high street bank, usually, using a computer that can't tell the difference between a CCJ from six years ago and one from six weeks ago. And instead of trying a specialist broker, they just stop. They assume that one decline is the final word on the matter, for every lender, forever. It almost never is. But by the time most people speak to me, they've often waited months or years longer than they needed to, simply because nobody gave them a straight, honest answer early enough to change their mind.
Generic mortgage calculators tell you how much you might be able to borrow — they don't tell you whether your specific credit history is actually a problem. Contact forms ask for your name and number before you've learned anything at all, which is exactly backwards for someone who's already nervous about being judged. And report-upload tools, in my experience, take too long and ask too much before giving anything back — by the time a result appears, plenty of people have already given up and closed the tab.
None of that matches how someone actually feels in that moment. They don't want a form. They want a straight answer, fast, without having to hand over their details first just to find out if it's even worth the conversation.
The Geezer Score asks a few short questions about your actual situation — your credit history, your deposit, your circumstances — and gives you a real, personalised answer in under a minute. No report to upload. No waiting. No contact details needed until after you've already got something useful. Just where you genuinely stand, in plain English, based on the same way of thinking I'd use sat across the table from you.
I've spent two decades in this industry, and I've never come across another broker — specialist or otherwise — offering anything quite like this. I can't claim to have seen every tool every broker in the UK has ever built, so I'll say it honestly rather than absolutely: as far as I'm aware, the Geezer Score is the first tool of its kind in the UK bad credit mortgage space. If I'm wrong about that, I'd genuinely like to know — but either way, it's the tool I wished existed for every person who's ever talked themselves out of asking.
