CCJ Mortgage — How Long Do You Need to Wait?
There is no legal minimum waiting period to apply for a mortgage after a CCJ. You can apply with a CCJ registered yesterday — though your options will be more limited. Every 12 months that passes makes your options significantly better.
🏦 What Lenders Look At
- The age of the CCJ — lenders often use 1, 2 and 3 year thresholds
- Whether the CCJ is satisfied
- The size of your deposit
- Your full credit profile since the CCJ
- Evidence of financial stability since the CCJ
❓ Common Questions
When does a CCJ drop off my credit file?
A CCJ is removed exactly 6 years from the date it was registered regardless of whether it has been satisfied.
Does satisfying a CCJ reset the clock?
No. The 6-year clock runs from the date the CCJ was registered not the date it was satisfied. However satisfying a CCJ does improve your mortgage options immediately.
