Remortgage With DMP — Darryl Dhoffer places cases the high street declines. He works with 65+ lenders including specialist adverse credit lenders, and knows which of them will genuinely consider your situation and at what rate.
Being declined feels personal. It isn't — banks use computers. Darryl uses judgement.
A Debt Management Plan is an informal arrangement with your creditors that appears on your credit file but not on a public register. Specialist lenders consider both active and completed DMPs when you remortgage. Your current lender is under no obligation to offer you a product transfer, and its decision has no bearing on whether specialist lenders will consider you: they assess your current circumstances, equity and credit profile.
DMP criteria are driven mainly by how long the plan has been running and how cleanly you have conducted it. As a guide, with equity playing the part a deposit does on a purchase:
| DMP status | Equity needed | Lender landscape |
|---|---|---|
| Active, under 12 months | 25%–30% | Very limited, highly specialist pool |
| Active, 12–24 months | 15%–25% | Specialist adverse lenders |
| Active, 2+ years | 10%–15% | Broader specialist panel |
| Completed / cleared | 5%–10% | Near-prime and mainstream lenders |
A single unarranged overdraft fee or missed bill since entering a DMP will usually cause an automatic decline with specialist underwriters, so a genuinely clean payment record on the DMP matters more than almost anything else.
Guide only. On a remortgage your equity plays the part a deposit does on a purchase. Lender policy changes, so criteria are confirmed live before any application.
The first step is a free, no-obligation assessment where Darryl reviews your full situation and gives you an honest picture of what is possible, before any application is made and before anything touches your credit file. For the full picture see the bad credit remortgage guide.
